Southern Vampire Mysteries 7 - by Charlaine Harris

Started Reading: June 4, 2007
Finished Reading: June 5, 2007

I’m reading All Together Dead and I’m not finished yet, LOL. But I still want to type a few things about what I’ve read so far -

I wish Sookie could make up her mind on who she likes and does not like. I wish she stops sleeping with almost every man she feels a chemistry with. D=

I wish the series doesn’t turn into another Anita Blake. =(

I hope this would end with an Eric/Sookie pairing. If not, screw canon. LOL.

I wish Charlaine Harris didn’t dwell so much on the lives of other people and instead went directly to the issue of the Summit. The few first chapters were a waste.

I continue reading chapter eight now. xD

EDIT: Alright, finally finished it!

The book ended in what seemed a cliff-hanger. I hoped it could have resolved more problems but, after finishing the book, there were just more conflicts after everything.

  1. Sophie-Ann lost her legs: this makes her more vulnerable than she already is. Considering her losses in terms of vampires and material wealth/possessions (due to Katrina), this physical accident is a potential problem.
  2. Andre’s dead? If he is, his death = another blow to Sophie-Ann in terms of strength and loyal underlings.
  3. A number of important vampires have either been killed or badly wounded/burned and permanently injured.
  4. There is a traitor among the vampires - Jake. Who is in league with the Fellowship of the Sun.
  5. There is an impending war with the Fellowship, and they have made the first strike already.
  6. The vampire community has been terribly weakened, and unless someone pulls the WHOLE community together - to unite them - they wouldn’t be able to have an advantage against the Fellowship. With some of what Sookie had experienced or heard in the 7th book, it seems as if most of the vampires are mostly interested in themselves.
  7. Sookie’s ability is more widely known now, and she’d possibly have other pursuers for her head.
  8. Sookie drank Eric’s blood again and, in effect, it seems to have strengthened her powers. I wonder if this really is temporary or if there are some permanent effects of this to Sookie.
  9. The source of Sookie’s fae blood is still a mystery. Neither she nor Eric has found the real source within her family ancestry.
  10. WILL ERIC EVER REMEMBER WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO HIM WHEN A WITCH CURSED HIM???

I hope that in the 8th book, all, if not most, of the conflicts are resolved. I’d really hate for the series to stretch more than it needs to be.

I’m pretty sure that Bill’s out of the picture, and since Sookie still can’t make up her mind if she loved Quinn or not, I’m still holding on that thread of possibility that she and Eric will finally, FINALLY, get together. I mean, Eric obviously cares for her to some degree, and blood-exchange or no blood-exchange, he affects her in positive ways (manages to give her courage, calms her down, etc.), as was proved in the book. There’s still some ground for this to become a canon. :P

As for the seventh book itself, it was altogether unsatisfying. It was good, yes, I could say that. But it wasn’t great either. The plot was slow and maybe with less of the unimportant events and more of the issues on hand, it would have made the novel more thrilling and suspenseful than it was. I mean, seriously, Charlain Harris could do better than this.

And, LOL. Eric a priest? xD That was amusing.
